Join Winifred A. Winston with Co-host LeDerick Horne as he shares his journey of winning over dyslexia when he entered community college after an early diagnosis. LeDerick shares how although he got an early diagnosis, it wasn’t until someone explained to him what it meant to be dyslexic and provided academic supports and services, did he thrive and become a published spoken word poet, international learning disability advocate and motivational speaker. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect in this episode:
How undiagnosed learning disabilities can trigger mental health issues
Community Colleges offer amazing supports for students with disabilities
Even renewed author Toni Morrison has an editor to edit her work - why representation matters
Understanding how important mentorship and like-minded peers is important for children and adults with learning disabilities
When assistive technology equals the playing field for someone struggling with writing and spelling
And so much more!
