In January of ‘99, teenage Rob was confronting the exhausting obsessiveness that would follow him through adulthood, and 6th grade Joe was resenting Christmas for making him look and feel stupid. Meanwhile, Wall Street was soaring, while income and education gaps grew wider every day. Audiences on the wrong side of those gaps congregated in front of TV screens to cheer against Vince McMahon, The Rock, Ken Shamrock, and the rest of The Corporation. The crowds went wild for the wrestlers who stood up to those big-money heels: Mankind, Triple H, Road Dogg, and, of course, Stone Cold Steve Austin—among many others. In this episode of Booyah, Rob and Joe discuss a Monday Night Raw jam-packed with overlapping narratives, racism, chair shots, sexism, a horrible miscarriage angle, and--when that glass breaks--one of the great pops of all time. It’s a fun conversation. You should listen.
