Looking to be the greatest is the way of the world; it is not the way to God’s blessings. The disciples were to be as teachable as children. They were to be humble and obedient, not interested in personal greatness, but interested in fulfilling God’s eternal purposes. Greatness is demonstrated in humbleness. It is servanthood rather than dictatorship. The Christian leads, but he or she does it by being a servant.
