This week we welcome Patrick Donohue, Attorney at Law. Patrick specializes in veteran's law, specifically VA claims. We discuss the ins and outs of filing an initial VA claim, and also the process of upgrading a previous decision. Patrick describes the three factors that go into a VA decision; in-service incident, current diagnosis, and the all important Nexus. The nexus is the connection between the current condition and the in-service incident, or event. Patrick specializes in proving the nexus, and getting veterans the compensation the deserve. We go through the entire claims process; from completing the intent to file, to filing a claim, the official examination, and finally the VA's rating decision. We also discuss the importance of having an attorney, or VSO, help you through this process. The key is that it is never to late to file a claim, and the most important thing is to get the process started as soon as possible. So if you have been icing your shoulder since taking a spill on the flight line in '04, this is the episode for you.
