Janet Wooten arrived at Campbell in 1991 and was the first of dozens of impact players John Crooks has coached over more than three decades. A transfer from Auburn, Janet is the answer to nearly all the important "first" trivia questions in Campbell women's golf history: First women's tournament individual winner First women's conference title winner First NCAA postseason individual berth First women's golfer to be inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame Janet won seven collegiate individual titles and helped Coach Crooks' teams win the first 10 of what now stands as 100 tournament victories – in addition to Big South Conference championships in 1993 and 1994. After earning an individual bid to the 1993 NCAA Regional, Janet and her teammates became the first Campbell women's team to reach NCAA postseason competition when the Camels played in the 1994 Regional at East Lansing, Michigan. In the next installment of Tales from the Creek, Campbell and Big South Conference Hall of Fame member Janet Wooten talks with Stan Cole about getting her start in golf, her path to Campbell, the time she completed a round with just 18 putts, making lifelong friends in Buies Creek and more.

Numbers don't tell the whole story. But sometimes, those numbers are so impressive that they are a starting point for a really good story. 162 Tournament titles 38 NCAA postseason appearances 27 Conference championships 28 Conference players of the Year 17 Conference freshmen of the Year 215 All-Conference performers 381 Conference All-Academic team members That's just a small sample of the accomplishments compiled by head coach John Crooks and his players since he took over as men's golf coach at Campbell in 1990 and assumed women's head coaching duties one year later. Heading into his 36th year at Campbell – John Crooks will become the longest tenured head coach in school history when the academic calendar flips this August. It's safe to say that he has built not only a mid-major powerhouse, but also one of the best college golf programs in the Southeastern United States. That program has not only produced three – soon to be four – PGA Tour professionals, but hundreds of successful Campbell graduates over the last four decades. John Crooks moved to Buies Creek four decades ago and this place became not only his home, but that of his children and their families. In the first of two episodes of Tales from the Creek, Hall of Fame Coach John Crooks talks with Stan Cole about how he began playing golf, competing at the highest level, his journey to Buies Creek, his path to coaching, and much more.…

Four decades ago, Cory Satterfield arrived on campus as a heralded right-handed pitcher from South Jersey. Recruited by Cal Koonce – a member of the 1969 Amazin' Mets – and later coached by 1982 Cy Young runner-up Mike Caldwell – Cory enjoyed a career capped by leading the Camels to their first Big South baseball title in 1988 and earning all-conference and all-tournament honors along the way. Thirty-seven years since he graduated, his name is still etched in the Campbell record books. He is still ranked among the program's top five all time leaders in wins, starts, complete games, innings pitched and strikeouts. Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1988, Cory played three seasons in the minors, earning Midwest League All-Star honors in 1989. After his playing career ended Cory began a teaching career in Harnett County and later Richmond County. He was twice honored as principal of the year and later served as assistant superintendent and interim superintendent of Scotland County schools. After retiring from administrative duties, he was elected to the Richmond County Board of Education in 2022 and continues to serve that organization. In addition to playing golf whenever he can, Cory is also a member of the Athletic Director's advisory board at his alma mater. In the next installment of Tales from the Creek, Cory Satterfield talks with Stan Cole about his journey to Campbell, being coached by two former major league pitchers, his deep connections with his teammates and to the Buies Creek community, and much more.…

Dale Steele literally built the Campbell Football program from the ground up. He arrived in Buies Creek in 2006 and spent the next two years putting together facilities, a staff and roster in time for the program to relaunch in 2008 after a 58-year hiatus. Coach Steele brought a quarter century of college football coaching experience to Campbell and turned the program into a winner in just four short years. The son of a high school coach and graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he played on the offensive and defensive lines, Dale began a coaching career that lasted more than 45 years when he took a graduate assistant position at Ball State in 1977. Over the years, his travels took him to Wisconsin, Tulane, Wichita State, Kansas State, East Carolina, Baylor, East Tennessee and Elon before he and his family moved to Harnett County in 2006. Among the many accomplishments of his career, include five bowl trips and back-to-back FCS national titles while he was on the staff at James Madison. Now retired, he has served as an advisor to current Campbell head coach Braxton Harris and is involved with the Myrtle Beach Bowl, while he and his wife Pam spend as much time as possible with their grand kids. Earlier this year, Coach Steele was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame. In the next installment of Tales from the Creek, Campbell Hall of Fame member Dale Steele talks with Stan Cole about his paths to Campbell, starting a football program from scratch, and more.…

Orville Peterson and Ernie White both transferred to Campbell to train with the legendary Coach Brant Tolsma. Before their time was finished, both earned All-America honors and represented their country in the most grueling competition in track and field.
