If you're thinking about starting your own podcast, this 2 part-series will help you flush out your content and collect all of your assets. This episode is the reflective work that will give you a clear direction for your show, starting with building your pillars.
This is a valuable exercise for any entrepreneur, even if you don't move forward in creating a Podcast.
Here are the 4 questions to ask yourself to build your show pillars.
#1. What is your Mission Statement?
#2. What are the problems your audience has? What are their pain points?
#3. How do you solve these problems for your audience with your products and services?
#4. Who is your ideal audience?
Use those answers to determine your expertise and create a list of pillars for your show. These don't have to be perfect. The goal is to create an outline for the direction you want your show to head. This exercise will also generate a list of content topics to get you started.
Now, the most important question to ask yourself is question #5...
#5. What are your current goals for your business?
A podcast will help you build authority, solidify your voice and speaking capabilities and establish a know/like/trust factor with your audience. It is an excellent top-of-funnel marketing tool that can lead to relationships and lucrative opportunities. That being said, a podcast is not going to make you money. Maybe long-term, once you've established an audience and can bring on ads, but up front, there is no direct revenue from a podcast.
There is still so much VALUE in getting started, as long as it aligns with the rest of the goals for your business.
Stay tuned for next week's episode where I dive into the assets you'll need to collect when you start your podcast.
