Matthew Part 37: The Gospel According to a Tax Collector
Manage episode 472922218 series 2365807
Romans 3:10
by Josh Head
“Hesed is when the one from whom I should expect nothing instead gives me everything.” - Michael Card
“Jesus’ statement here goes back to the Sermon on the Mount. The kind of righteousness Jesus demands surpasses the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. It doesn't surpass the righteousness of scribes and Pharisees by being more scrupulous than theirs. It surpasses the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees by being a redemptive righteousness, a righteousness of compassion and healing. Jesus has a different program for Israel's redemption: not holiness by separation but compassion for tax collectors and sinners.” - Peter Leithart
Application 1: Put on a Heart of Compassion
Colossians 3:12
“The parents most able to give grace to their children are the ones who regularly remember the grace that they’ve received. - Paul David Tripp
“The people most well-equipped to be compassionate to others are the ones who regularly reflect on how God has been compassionate to them.”
Application 2: Regularly Remember Your Salvation
