Clare Educator Warns Mobile Phone Usage Has Serious Impacts On Student's Grades

With students having just gone back to school, a former Clare educator is warning that mobile phone usage will have a negative impact on students grades. Last month Minister for Education, Norma Foley, announced that she would be pushing for the implementation of a ban on mobile phones during the school day. A Chicago based study carried out in February of this year found mobile phones seriously impacted student's cognitive function while the knowledge that their mobile phone was nearby impacted test performance. Retired deputy principal of Rice College, John Burns, believes the best way to implement a restriction on the use of mobile phones at school, is to confiscate them if used during class time.
