Clare JPC Chair To Contact Justice Minister Over 'Disappointing' Number Of New Local Garda Recruits

The Chair of Clare's Joint Policing Committee says he'll be contacting the Justice Minister over what he believes is a 'disappointing' number of new recruits here in recent years. New figures show just 51 new Gardai have been attested to Clare since 2015, with just four of the country's 28 divisions having seen lower numbers of starters in the same timeframe. Only two Gardai were assigned to Clare in all of 2022, while the county received no allocation from the 24 new recruits given new posts in the latest round of designation, which occurred on the 13th of January this year. Clare JPC Chair and Sixmilebridge-based Fine Gael Councillor John Crowe has been telling Clare FM's Josh Prenderville that action is needed on the matter.
