Clare retailers are embracing Black Friday despite the difficulties presented by the current economic climate. Retailers across the county have slashed prices today to make the most of the adopted tradition. But, while more people are entering the shops, it comes at a turbulent time for retailers and consumers alike. CEO of Ennis Chamber Margaret O'Brien says some retailers in the county town have chosen to take part and other have chosen to run promotions throughout the month of November on their own terms. While Padraig Haugh of Manix Menswear on Upper Market Street insists he has to compete with the bigger shops and companies offering discounts today. Sinead Pyne from Cornucopia on Upper Market Street says people have taken the narrative to shop local to heart.
