A Clare senator is pushing for funding to be put towards recruiting Gardaí as well as improving their pay in Budget 2025. Tulla Fianna Fáil Senator Timmy Dooley has cited the fact that Garda numbers in Clare are down by almost 7% since 2019 - with just 515 rank-and-file members now spread across the Clare-Tipperary Garda Division. The latest meeting of Clare's Joint Policing Committee has heard of significant increases in various types of crime in Clare as assault causing harm is up 81%, burglary has increased by 31% and domestic incidents have seen a rise of 9%. Senator Dooley believes people are becoming desensitised to crime as Gardaí don't have the resources to effectively tackle it.
