The schedule of road works in the West Clare Municipal District is set to go ahead pending a significant funding boost. It follows a special meeting of the Kilrush and Ennistymon electoral area councillors last week over shortfalls in their roads repair budgets for this year. Despite comprising 55% of the county’s road network, the West Clare MD had been allocated just 46% of the €18.2m road works budget for the coming year, however its understood an acceptable offer has been made to rectify the issue. Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy says historic underfunding has to be addressed once and for all.
