Gardaí in Shannon are being called on to explain how they're responding to a recent "spate" of car thefts in the town. Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan has asked Gardaí to attend a meeting of local representatives following a significant number of high-profile instances of car theft and vandalism in Shannon. Within the first three months of this year, 23 car thefts were recorded in Clare which is up 10 on the same period in 2023. Councillor McGettigan says the Gardaí must show they're working to prevent future incidents but insists it's also important people report incidents when they occur.
