Shannon Health Forum Chair Claims Children's Hospital Is Solution To Spine Surgery Waiting Lists

A Sinn Fein local councillor is claiming that the opening of a children's hospital is the real long term solution to relieve the numbers on waiting lists to receive spinal surgeries. This follows the decision that children awaiting spinal surgeries are to be sent to hospitals in the United States for treatment following the implementation of a similar scheme in the UK. The Department of Health has confirmed the package offered to eligible families will include the cost of flights and accommodation. Sinn Fein Councillor, Donna McGettigan, says that although opening a children's hospital is the correct long term solution, in the time it would take for the construction to finish, many children would become ineligible for pediatric care.
