The County's dog warden has expressed concern that the trend of dog attacks in the county shows no sign of slowing down following two seperate incidents in Lisdoonvarna and Ennistymon where dogs were killed as a result of an attack. In Lisdoonvarna a dog was killed by an unmuzzled German Shepherd, while in Ennistymon a dog died from the injuries suffered as a result of an attack from two other larger dogs. Under The Control of Dogs Regulations 1998, German Shepherds are required to be muzzled, with people opting instead to use a 'halti' which does not prevent a dog from being able to bite. Clare County Dog Warden, Frankie Coote, claims people in Clare have not been adhering to this legislation, stating there will be harsh penalites for owners of dogs who are not under control.
