It’s back to school time! Two rock-star homeschool moms share tips, struggles, resources and more to help you educate your children. Homeschool, private or public school parents will benefit and be encouraged to continue to make learning enjoyable for both the student and the teacher. Learn the one thing (or maybe two) these moms want you to remember through the process. Listen now!

Back to school with homeschool moms is our show #156 topic. Favorite products, three things to prepare for the year and more!

Read Lisa’s and Kelly’s 3 Steps to Prepare for the Homeschool Year.

Lisa’s resource list:

Curriculum Lisa likes (and she’s used a LOT of different curriculum in 23 years!):

  • ABeka phonics program (all 3 years)
  • ABeka Academy
  • Math U See
  • Shurley English
  • Rod and Staff Preschool workbooks
  • God’s Design for Science curriculum from Answers in Genesis

Kelly’s Resource list:

Mentioned on the show:

  • Scholaric.com
  • Bankers boxes – Place a manilla envelope for each child with thier papers for the year in a box. Fill until full and label it.
  • Kahnacademy.com (math, tax laws, mortgages, fractions, videos of all kinds)
  • Book shelves, book shelves and more book shelves. Organize your shelves by category – history, science, English, etc. Here is a picture of Kelly’s Ikea Kallax shelves...a favorite!!

The key to staying organized while homeschooling is bookshelves, bookshelves and more bookshelves. Our favorite: Ikea Kallax unit in white.

  • Tracy’s tool: She teaches her children to figure things out on their own. A great way to do this is to type the exact math word problem into the search bar in Google. You’ll be amazed. It will come up with step-by-step instructions to solve the problem and a many times it will be a video. This has helped her help her child many times!
  • Chelle’s tool: The removal of Xbox works every time!

ONE thing:

  • Be flexible and forgiving. No teacher is perfect. No curriculum is perfect. No student is perfect. No schedule is perfect! Kelly reminds herself of this…daily. ?
  • Don’t be afraid to waste money is the quote that Lisa heard 20 years ago. It has given her the freedom to move on to something else if a curriculum she spent money on wasn’t working!
