Kit Marie and Jenni chat over a mug of Hot Lava Java about volcanology, the impact of colonialism on managing hazards, sobbing over reality TV, amongst other things! Jenni is a volcanologist, interested in anything - weather, history, people, inequalities, fancy scientific sensors, communication - as long as it’s got something to do with volcanoes! She likes to apply this expertise to the reduction of disaster risk in volcanic settings. At the moment, Jenni is working on projects that look at how we make sense of the challenges, contradictions and uncertainties that happen when volcanoes erupt - and focussing on how we can really learn lessons from past eruptive crises. Some links to things mentioned in the chat: - Volcano Top Trumps educational game (https://volcanoestoptrumps.org/) - Volcano April Fools Prank https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidbressan/2021/04/01/one-of-the-greatest-april-foolsday-pranks-ever-involved-a-fake-volcanic-eruption/ - The Volcano Scientists Can’t Find https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20170630-the-massive-volcano-that-scientists-cant-find - Great Pottery Throw Down (https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-great-pottery-throw-down) - Norwich Science Festival (https://norwichsciencefestival.co.uk/) - UEA Volcano Outreach (https://volcanoutreach.uea.ac.uk/) Expand your geography network and connect with Jenni via Twitter at https://www.twitter.com/VolcanoJenni ==About Coffee & Geography== The aim of ‘Coffee & Geography’ is to get to know, explore and celebrate the diverse & intersectional range of people and their love for the world.
