As we continue to walk through the Gospel of Luke, we look at Luke 5:27-32 - the story of Jesus calling a man named Levi to follow him. We look at the context of the tax collector, and why they were so hated (Levi's job was collecting tax for the Roman Empire at the time). How could Jesus call this man to follow Him? Wasn't Jesus concerned about his reputation for having a guy like Levi be associated with Him?
We see through the text that Jesus does not care about what Levi was doing in his past. Jesus simply loved him as he was, and wanted him to follow Him. The call to follow Jesus meant that Levi had to leave his old patterns, and old life behind. The call to follow Jesus today has the same implications. We cannot continue to live in our old ways and followJesus. We are to leave our 'old life' behind us, as we follow Christ.
Jesus does not discriminate! He does not care about the cultural biases and stigmas, not only of His day and time, but also today.
We hope you are encouraged by the spoken Word today!
We meet weekly at the City Centre Community Centre in Richmond, British Columbia. We gather for worship on the 3F! Everyone is welcome to come!
