In this episode, we delve into the concept of being "qualified" in the workplace, examining who gets labeled as such, who doesn't, and the underlying reasons. We explore "competency checking"—the practice of scrutinizing individuals' abilities—and how it disproportionately affects underrepresented groups, often going unnoticed or unchallenged. Our discussion aims to redefine qualifications in a fair, equitable, and actionable manner. Our guest, Shari Dunn , is an accomplished journalist, former attorney, news anchor, CEO, university professor, and sought-after speaker. She has been recognized as Executive of the Year and a Woman of Influence, with her work appearing in Fortune Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Ad Age, and more. Her new book, Qualified: How Competency Checking and Race Collide at Work , unpacks what it truly means to be deserving and capable—and why systemic barriers, not personal deficits, are often the real problem. Her insights challenge the narratives that hold so many of us back and offer practical solutions for building a more equitable future. Together, we can build workplaces and communities that don’t just reflect the world we live in, but the one we want to create. A world where being qualified is about recognizing the talent and potential that’s been overlooked for far too long. It’s not just about getting a seat at the table—it’s about building an entirely new table, one designed with space for all of us. Truth should mark our lives and lips as Christians. We are called to know the truth, be grounded upon the truth, and proclaim the truth. Yet, truth without love is not true truth, just as love without truth is not true love. In Ephesians 4:15, Paul declares that truth is to find its permanent residence in love—and as Christians, our lives and lips must have an accuracy of both truth and love. In short, the motives and manner is just as important as the message.…
While decorum is not a word we typically use today, it is an important concept for how we behave. In President Trump’s State of the Union last week, Mike Johnson removed a member of Congress for a lack of decorum. In this episode, Eric and Nathan talk about decorum, define what it is and discuss how there has been a lack of decorum in our socio-political world, and why it is so important to have in the life of the Christian. ------------ » Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/ » Receive our free “ Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty ” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/ » For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily » If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/ » Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/…
Eric and Leslie never expected to be standing on a stage speaking. But thirty years later, after speaking to multiple hundreds of thousands in multiple hundreds of venues, they’ve kind of accepted public speaking as a somewhat normal activity now. In contrast to the maturity and growth we as Christians are to have in Christ Jesus, Paul warns believers that they should not be immature, unstable, and gullible. In this message from Ephesians 4:14–15, Nathan Johnson talks about how easy it is to be tossed back and forth while being blown here and there, how such a life is not fitting for Christians, and the solution so that we never have to. ------------ » Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/ » Receive our free “ Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty ” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/ » For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily » If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/ » Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/…
Whereas the Fear of God is the beginning of good things—things like wisdom and knowledge. The fear of man is also the beginning of some things. But the things that the fear of man begins are not at all pleasant. For instance, the fear of man fosters a derangement of the human brain. It causes said brain to stop questioning the obvious, to turn off all reasonableness, and forsake all common sense. In our world today we call the fear of man political/social correctness. It’s where someone chooses to act upon what is “correct” in the world’s eyes over what is actually true in God’s Word. Who would do such a ridiculous thing as that? Well, if you are looking for a case study—look no further than yourself. Every last one of us, whether we are presently walking in this strange “fear of man” behavior or not, have had plenty of experience doing so at some juncture of our lives.

There is one goal and focus for the Church—Jesus Christ Himself! In Ephesians 4:13, Paul describes the goal in three ways, but the focus is the same. In this study, Nathan Johnson dives into the passage and talks about Paul’s heart and desire for the body of Christ and how we as the Church are to be unified in the faith and grow in the full knowledge of Jesus, mature unto the perfect man, and be measured according to the stature of the fullness of Christ.
Virtue signaling is “impression management”—it is to subtly boost your reputation through what you say (or don’t say), what you wear, what groups you associate with, etc. Humanity seems to be wired for virtue signaling—to focus on self and how to look better in other’s eyes. Yet, as Eric and Nathan discuss, this is opposite of the Kingdom of Heaven. We should not care for our own reputations, but the reputation of Jesus Christ. In this conversation, Eric and Nathan dive into the topic of virtue signaling, giving many examples from their own lives, and discuss the sole remedy to being set free for a greater purpose.
Eric and Leslie were best-selling authors and internationally traveling speakers that were used to speaking to thousands at a time, when God called them to walk away from that path, come off the road, and speak to only a handful for a season. Why? What good could come out of such a shrinkage of influence and voice? This call to the small was the necessary step that prepared the Ludys for the launch of Ellerslie in 2009.

The Overton Window is a socio-political concept denoting the “politically accepted view of the moment/time.” It’s the perspective through which modern culture deems that which is acceptable. But is this a Christian concept and how should we as believers respond to the Overton Window of our culture … especially when it appears the window is moving closer to a biblical perspective. In this timely and profound conversation, Eric and Nathan discuss the difference between the Overton Window and the “Canon/Biblical Window” and what we should do about it.

Paul reminds us in Ephesians 4:12–13 that God’s desire for the Church is to grow up and be built into a body that is mature and measured by the stature of Christ. And this “building up the body” process happens, according to Paul, when every believer is equipped and in active ministry. In this message, Nathan examines Ephesians 4:12 and what it means for every Christian to be a “waiter at the table” for the work of Christ and His Kingdom.
There is a big movement to focus inward, put America first, and make her great again. Yet, the tension our nation faces is should not we use our strength to help weaker people and nations around the world? Perhaps to make it more personal, what does the Bible say about focusing on self verses turning outward and focusing on others? In this timely and stirring conversation, Eric and Nathan discuss the tension between America first and meeting the needs around the world, and more importantly, the tension in our own lives to focus on “first things” while being available for the equally important “second things.” ------------ » Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Eric, Leslie, Nathan, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/ » Receive our free “ Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty ” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/ » For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily » If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/ » Discover more resources, books, and sermons from Eric Ludy by going to: https://ellerslie.com/about-eric-ludy/…
Thirty years ago when Eric and Leslie stepped into the battle of ministry, they were completely unprepared to stand up to the spiritual assault that came against them. They were naive believers unskilled in the art of war. But, around ten years into their ministry work—when they were discouraged and doubting they could even continue on—they finally came to understand the powerful weaponry that they have in Christ. In this episode, they discuss the spiritual weaponry they discovered and the dramatic impact this armament has had on their lives and ministry ever since.
