PERSEVERING THROUGH HARDSHIPS Pastor Nestor Flores Sunday July 23, 2023 “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.” John 16:33 “We often suffer, but we are never crushed. Even when we don't know what to do, we never give up. 9 In times of trouble, God is with us, and when we are knocked down, we get up again.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (CEV) To Persevere When Hardships Come… “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV) 1. Sustain a Positive Attitude “Therefore we do not lose heart...” 2 Corinthians 4:16a (NIV) “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Proverbs 17:22 (NLT) 2. Embrace The Paradox Of Inward Renewal “Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16b (NIV) “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.” Romans 5:3-5 (NLT) 3. Develop an Eternal Perspective “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” 2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV) “Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.” Romans 8:18 (NLT) 4. Refine Your Focus On Jesus “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV) “You have never seen Jesus, and you don't see him now. But still you love him and have faith in him, and no words can tell how glad and happy 9 you are to be saved. This is why you have faith.” 1 Peter 1:8-9 (CEV) “Let us keep looking to Jesus. Our faith comes from Him and He is the One Who makes it perfect. He did not give up when He had to suffer shame and die on a cross. He knew of the joy that would be His later. Now He is sitting at the right side of God... Think of this so you will not get tired and give up.” Hebrews 12:2-3 (NLV) “God will bless you, if you don't give up when your faith is being tested. He will reward you with a glorious life, just as he rewards everyone who loves him.” James 1:12 (CEV) ..........................
