Inspire by a personal incident in the last week, Nina decided to discuss how to be self aware and conscious in an unconscious world/setting. It's easier to always take the high road when you have less human interaction with others. But most of us go to a job or work everyday that requires hours and hours of human interaction. With human interaction comes ego, trigger points, high emotions and the difficult choice of making a conscious choice or an unconscious choice.

Individuals who are on the path of reaching their highest potential usually tend to do the brunt of the inner work when it comes to self awareness and self understanding. After years of trial and error, making new friends, loosing old friends, shedding jobs or careers they don't align with them, distancing themselves from family members who aren't supportive etc, they tend to feel as though they have mastered "spirituality." But then they go back out into the world, and their human interaction spikes and one tiny incident can make them feel as though they took two steps forward in mastering themselves but then took 3 steps backward just when they thought they got the hang of life.

This happens to ALL of us. It is HARD work to always be self aware and always respond to people and life in a conscious manner. We aren't perfect beings. We are progressive beings.

WHAT IS SELF AWARENESS THOUGH?

Basic definition: it is the ability to pay attention to who you are and what makes you tick

Complex definition: it involves developing an understanding of your deeper beliefs, inner wounds, mental and emotional defense mechanisms and repressed unconscious material. In simpler terms it's; deep self understanding.

Listen to the full episode to hear Nina & Brian discuss:

  1. examples of self awareness
  2. why it is so important to be self aware
  3. why it is so hard for us to be self aware
  4. practical steps you can take to be self aware and conscious in an unconscious world/setting

Book:

  1. "The Art of Living" by Thich Nhat Hanh
  2. "Peace is Every Step" by Thich Nhat Hanh

Quote: “you can't get away from yourself by moving from one place to another.” “Strong people have a strong sense of self-worth and self-awareness; they don't need the approval of others.” “The greatest thing in the world is to know how to belong to oneself.”
