Luke 23:26-56 With the guilty Barabbas released, and the innocent Jesus “delivered over to their will,” we are left to behold the man upon the cross as God accomplishes that which is humanly impossible—namely, sending His only Son to be our substitute and to sacrifice himself on the cross for our sins. Looking at the last three times Jesus speaks from the cross we see Jesus operating with joy—“for the joy that was set before him, he endured the cross” (Heb. 12:2). In a simple phrase, this text can be summed up like this—Jesus died my soul to save. And in this all God’s people rejoice.
