E35: Collaboration episode with Rae Imasiku and Shy Purslow from Mentalk Ubuntu. Through its platform for promoting positive perceptions of black men and mental health, Mentalk Ubuntu does all it can to reduce cultural stereotypes, relationship triggers, and general obstacles to life.
Much like the therapeutic talks that take place in barbershops and tattoo parlors, our open-table talk includes; POC triggers like “well-spoken”, “team dark-skin”, being a black man in a white private school, pros and cons of cultural influences, the historical proverbs / parables used by our culturally rich parents and acceptance of seeking professional help. In addition, we reveal how to overcome childhood, relationship, and lockdown trauma.
If you or someone you know is looking to get help outside their own personal network, feel free to reach NHS and non NHS resources - Andy’s Man Club, Mental Health Foundation, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), Samaritans and Mentalk Ubuntu.
