Today we will travel back 75 years to the dramatic show named Escape, which ran on CBS from 1947 to 1954. Much like another series, Suspense, which had similar content, escape was run on a much lower budget as they did not have a sponsor. Generally this led to the producer, Les Crutchfield to adapt many short classic novels into radio plays.

In today’s episode we will join one of those adaptations, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Diamond as Big as the Ritz. Originally published in Smart Set magazine in 1922, it tells a tale of a young man named John Unger, a teenager from the wonderfully named town of Hades, Mississippi. At his boarding school, a young man named Percy Washington invites him to his home for the summer. He even boasts.. That his father has a diamond bigger than the Ritz-Carlton Hotel…

So please, join John on this very strange adventure, as we travel back to July 21st , 1947 with Escame and the adaptation of A Diamond as Big as the Ritz.
