In our culture today, the role of the father is really put down but what people don’t realize is that the role of a father really is important in our kids' lives. On this week's episode of Embracing Your Season, host Paige Clingenpeel has special guest Dr. Meg Meeker on the show to talk about the impact that fathers have in our kids' lives. Dr. Meeker also addresses how to lift up our husbands and encourage them in their role as the father instead of criticizing.

Paige’s Takeaways:

  1. We might be causing stress or negative interactions towards our husbands or father of our children because of the way we potentially criticize or judge them. How we ask a father to initiate a conversation can sometimes be critical and can lead to discouragement instead of being helpful.
  2. A fathers voice is so powerful in our kids' lives. It takes one word or one praise from them to make the kids light up.
  3. Be mindful about how we speak over our husbands. We need to encourage and praise them for speaking into our kids' lives and being the best dad that they can be. This will change the dynamic in the household.
  4. Father wounds can be something that you struggle with for life. They have shaped you and helped shape your identity and maybe wounded you at a deep level. I recommend seeing a counselor who can speak into these issues and hurts. We don’t want to be stuck or let things fester for too long. We can find freedom in this area.
