This week marked 100 years since the legendary Jack Dempsey beat George Coutier in front of a record crowd of 90,000 - generating the first million pound gate ever. Al remembers that momentous event wirh footage AND commentary from the fight. Al chats through some of the headlines that top the boxing world including the drama centered around Michael Zeraffa’s withdrawal from the fight with Tim Tszyu.
Our guest for episode 174 is the world renowned strength and conditioning coach Phil Daru. He is the former Director of Performance at American Top Team who’s list of athletes include Joanna Jendrzejczyk, Tecia Torres, Junior Dos Santos, King Mo Lawal, Tecia Torres, Colby Covington, Maureen Shea, Sullivan Barrera. and recently begun working together with former Red Sox legend ‘The Hit Dog’ Mo Vaughan to build a local community program.
Phil is currently putting Dustin Poirier through the final stages of prep for his UFC 264 trilogy battle with Conor McGregor. Phil talks to Al about his head trauma and constant battle to overcome short term memory loss. They address the idea that fighters cannot develop power, and talks about how fighters like Naoya Inoue & Deontae Wilder generate such concussive power.
