Gill is now a high profile public speaker and writer, but she was born into a poor family in the east end of London and after a slow start she eventually got educated, got a good degree, a teaching qualification and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in London. It was there that she gained much experience with large corporations, particularly in financial services. It was also there that Gill started her presenting career there in 1983.
