“Relying on your product marketer to be the only person that understands and talks to customers is a mistake.”

Hello Hello! On episode 63 of the Flying Cat Marketing podcast, we sat down with Camille Trent, the head of content marketing at Dooly, to discuss product marketing, its importance, and how content and product marketers can work together closely to bring value to the whole team. We start by asking the question: Are all content marketers product marketers?
Dooly is a sales enablement platform for revenue teams. The platform helps sales leaders, frontline managers, and account executives to close more deals and be more productive by making it easy for them to collect the right information and ask the right questions.
In this episode, we do a deep dive into product marketing and answer questions like: What is product marketing? What exactly do product marketers do? What makes them an essential part of any company? And what can content marketers learn from them that would enable the content team to have a better understanding of the company and their clients?
According to Camille, “both product marketers and content marketers are storytellers and they should be working together to figure out what story they want to tell.” It’s important for content marketers to deeply understand their audience and product just as much as product marketers do. Content marketers need to ask themselves questions like: “what problem are we trying to solve and who are we trying to solve it for?” Tune in to understand the why behind this piece of advice and learn how these two teams of marketers can work together better.
Camille also tells us about how she provides the writers on her team with subject matter expertise. Making sure to point the writers in the right direction, building a content matrix, and making sure the writers understand the essence of the company are just some of the ways you can help writers out.
If you’re interested in learning more about how marketers can be more product-driven and what content marketers need to learn from product marketers, then this is definitely the episode for you.
