One of the biggest obstacles in acquiring a second language in a monolingual environment is the limited access to exposure and opportunities for individuals who have grown up in a linguistic and cultural setting where only one language is spoken. As a result, these individuals may not fully understand the importance or necessity of learning a second language. However, with the increasing diversity and globalization in many countries that were historically monolingual, the ability to speak multiple languages has become increasingly essential. To overcome this challenge, I will explore various strategies such as understanding the mindset of monolingual students, finding similarities and differences between English and the second language, and providing access to resources and support.
