God’s covenant is His commitment to the people, but there are requirements from them. These are expressed in the promises, the law, judgement, faithfulness and mercy.

A covenant is also used as a commitment between human relationships based upon agreement. The nature of the covenant is a solemn agreement or promise. The covenant is confirmed sometimes by sacrifice or by sharing in a meal. It is where two or more parties commit themselves to the rights and responsibilities demanded by this covenant relationship and their agreed course of action. Each party must accept the serious consequences of breaking the covenant.

Noah brought his family and the animals into the ark. After the floodwaters receded, Noah came out of the ark and built an altar to the Lord. The Lord told Noah that He would not allow the earth to be destroyed like that again. God allowed Sodom and Gomorrah to be destroyed so that they would not infect the other nations. God sealed it with a covenant with Noah.

What is the purpose of the covenant that God established with humanity during Noah’s time? Was God saying, He would never let the earth be destroyed again by the flood only? And will not protect it from all other elements of destruction?”

God established a covenant with Abraham to protect him and preserve his descendants to fulfil God’s five promises with Abraham.

God said He had given the land of Promise to Abraham’s descendants. God covenanted and had to protect Abraham’s descendants to fulfil His promises of blessing to all the families of the earth. Therefore, God established a covenant and sealed it with Abraham’s sacrifices that He would deliver his descendants from Egypt.

In the covenant, God was committed to preserving the descendants of Abraham till the day of Joseph and Mary.

God’s commitment to the covenant is passed down to us. God is committed to giving us plans to prosper us and giving us the power to get wealth. He has opened the windows of heaven to bless us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly.
But we are to keep our commitment to the covenant. We are to tithe and give offerings to the church for God to continue to establish His covenant by expanding it.
