Debbie Ellinger served 6 years as a police officer, with one of those years in a unit investigating sex crimes against children. She has a beautiful heart and little did she know then that those experiences would lead her to forming a nonprofit ministry many years later to serve young girls who have been victims of sex trafficking where she could bring healing out of darkness. At the time of this interview, Elli’s House 313 is renovating a home they have purchased and are preparing to welcome and nurture six young homeless girls between the ages of 11 and 17 into self-sufficient adulthood through a caring environment that includes therapy, education and life skills for healthy living.

Debbie has a beautiful perspective, grounded in grace-based living and she’s building a team around her who have a passion to serve people struggling in poverty. Partnering with FiveTwo, Debbie and her team embarked on a two year journey in a ministry incubator process. Through this, they have clarified their vision and are developing and implementing a strategy to bring the vision to life!

Debbie and her team are in the community doing street outreach three days each week. In the times she feels discouraged, she just needs to focus on the girls and how important they are to her. She’s learning how valuable it is to be consistent, to keep showing up. Over time, those who aren’t initially ready to trust, develop trust because the team keeps showing up! One of the street outreach volunteers noted that she never imagined she would be able to give people living on the street so much sympathy and empathy. I hope you’ll join me to hear Debbie’s story.
