Today's State of Roe recap is for the Land of Lincoln itself, Illinois. Illinois is a safe and even major haven state for abortion laws and has a huge number of providers in and around the Chicago area, with more access to come, especially for out-of-state visitors. This last point is very important in a post-Roe world as many people will now be traveling to Illinois to get a safe and legal abortion.
While it may take time for Illinois’ infrastructure to catch up with this sudden increase in demand, the state’s government and most of its electorate are pro-choice. These rights are further protected by Governor J.B. Pritzker, who wants to undergird the state’s already fairly progressive pro-choice laws.
