Learning how to study at the college level is a major transition for most freshmen because of the freedom and less structure of mom and dad telling them when to study, eat, sleep, etc. So it’s important for students to get prepared while they are still at home in high school as it will make the transition to college smoother. In high school, the learning schedule is highly structured, and teachers are in charge of making sure students stay on task. In college, students will not have this type of hands-on instruction. College professors will give a syllabus at the beginning of each semester, and students will be in charge of making sure they stay on task. Making good grades in school is important, however, the main goal of studying should be to learn and retain information. To do this, you must develop effective study skills and learning strategies. Dr. Stephen Jones, author of three books including "Seven Secrets of How to Study" will give us some tips on understanding the essential skills a student needs to learn in order to be successful in high school and college.
