On the August 5, 2024 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor Ben Pearson is joined by /Film staff writer and box office analyst Ryan Scott to talk about the weekend’s box office numbers and answer a couple of listener emails.

In The News:

Listener emails:

  • Jerry from Ohio says: I love the podcast and enjoy most everything you do. However, I was disappointed in hearing a possible spoiler for Avengers: Secret Wars when Ryan mentioned that the storyline in the comic is that the multiverse collapses into one universe. As a person that hasn’t read any of the comics and doesn’t watch trailers or read up on things before they air to avoid spoilers, I was disappointed to hear what may be a huge spoiler. I just wanted to bring it to your attention. I still am a huge fan, keep up the great work!

  • Zachary from East-Central Wisconsin says: Feels the reaction to the “Downey as Victor Von Doom” news has been a bit overblown. “Although the reveal that Downey is back in the franchise after his character was so memorably killed off 6 years ago was a shock, the main discourse I keep seeing acts as though “Tony Stark” with a cape will be walking around the MCU, creating moments of confusion and sadness in the hearts and minds of the MCU characters and audiences alike. But isn’t Doom’s whole thing that he gets scienced in the face and then hides it behind his iconic metal mask for the rest of forever? [...] Can’t we then assume that we probably won’t see much of his face, outside of any sort of flashbacks or variant version of the character? And if that’s the case, don’t we think that RDJ is a strong enough actor to make his performance and character choices unique enough to distinguish itself? [...] I think concern that Feige and Marvel will give in to their worst impulses with this is warranted, however, all the extreme negative opinions I’ve been seeing feel a bit premature and misguided.
