As a Tampa realtor, I'm always trying to give my home buyers a competitive edge so they can get a better deal...The National Association of Realtors runs statistics every year and talks to home buyers and home sellers. They've shown that home buyers that have been pre-approved for a mortgage can save an average of 3 - 6%. That pre-approval means so much in today's Real Estate market.
The difference between a pre-approval VS. a pre-qualification- the pre-qual is based on the initial information that you give to the lender. The pre-approval, however, is based on the information that you give to the lender that has been verified. Essentially, you are just like a cash buyer after that point. Get pre-approved sooner rather than later so you can get the advantage. If you are up against other buyers, and if you have already been pre-approved by your lender, your offer will be favored over other buyers who are not as fully prepared as you are.
