David Cervelli

David Cervelli is one of the most regarded sales and leadership development educators in the industry today, both in Australia and around the world. His innovative integrated marketing and business strategies for today's New Marketplace have been highly sought after by global-leading brands includingEtihad Airways, Salesforce Australia, Yahoo, Liveperson, RP Data, Sensis andFacebook. Over the past decade, this global market perspective offers unique value and insight which has allowed David to build and manage multiple 8-figure businesses and sales leadership teams for both enterprise and small start-up business. David's dedication to the study behavioural psychology has seen him making violins in Italy, touring Europe with a French performing circus and working closely with Jordan "The Wolf of Wall Street" Belfort and other high-profile professional personalities. This passion and infectious curiosity comes through in every product, service and customer engagement.

00:50 – Meet David Cervelli, a sales and leadership developer and educator. He has an education company that focuses on building up other companies – whether small or big and well-established. Right now, they are centered on teaching companies how to master engaging business conversations

02:02 – David’s current focus at the moment – where he is now, and who does he help specifically? They're starting another branch of their business in New York that focuses more on educating young entrepreneurs; learning how to sell, connecting to more seasoned experts, etc., David's company has also recently released their online sales training

03:47 –What are some of the challenges David ran into on his journey up? David personally thinks that one big factor (rather than challenge) is a person's upbringing and family background – how you were taught when you were young shapes your view of finances, freedom, and so on. Some people are brought into a family of entrepreneurs. Others aren’t.

09:04 – The turning point in David’s life came somewhere in his 20’s, when he started to see certain things as limiters and others as drivers. He was in a place where he started looking for a way out. What finally drove him to the direction of entrepreneurship was when he took a bit of sabbatical from him work to travel around. He had a great adventure but, when he came back, he was broke and friendless, at a low-end position in a call center. “I’ve done all these things in my life," David says, describing what he felt back then, "but I’m pretty unsatisfied with where I am.” His life turned around when he started thinking: there’s got to be a better way. He went to find a speaker, and he found Jordan Belfort, the Real Wolf of Wall Street

11:16 – For the listeners out there who are thinking the same thing – there has to be a better way – David has this piece of advice for you. The only difference between you and the people at the top of their game is this; you’ve fundamentally got the same attributes – you’re just doing something different with the exact same ingredients. The only difference is your belief in yourself and your ability to do it. "If there’s something you’re unhappy with, trust me," David says, "There is more. Do something. Doesn’t matter what you do. Movement guarantees life."

13:56 – Time Travel Moment: If you could go back 20 years and tell yourself one thing, what would it be? David says he would tell his younger self: learn to be a completer. Learn to complete things. “Dogged persistence will beat natural skill any day in a week," David says. "Don’t rely on the things that come to you naturally. Even if you’re good at something, go out and try to be better.”

15:00 – What does Freedom mean for David? It should be what drives everyone. Freedom is not necessarily about doing or having. Freedom is about being. Being able to be who you are. Being able to be yourself.

18:24 –If you were starting over today, with nothing but your experience, what is the first thing you would do? Go out and find someone who is awesome already in that field. Get the right team and right people to surround me.

19:31 – Start of QuickFire Questions: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

19:42 – Can you share one of your personal habits that you strongly believe contributes to your success?

19:55 – What’s one piece of technology, equipment, or app that you and your business can’t live without?

20:08 – What book would you recommend? Robert Cialdini’s “Influence” and “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss

20:20: Who’s your public hero?

20:28 – What do you think the world’s missing?

20:37 – Who do you recommend we have on this podcast?

21:10 – To end the podcast, David leaves this piece of advice for the listeners: commit to yourself. Commit to whatever you’re doing. Stay at it until it works.
