From Project BFF HQ, Terri + Manya riff with author Leia Johnson about friendships she has built with fostering families who are raising biologically related children. We talked about the power of the foster care community, the math of friendship, and how to look for people who when they talk, it matters.
Leia first picture book is Sister, a book about a young girl experiencing both the joy and grief of building a family through fostering and adoption. She believes in the power of storytelling as a healing agent. When she is not auditioning for American Idol or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Leia spends her time reading, eating cheese, and being the most enthusiastic cheerleader at all her kids' activities. As an Air Force spouse and parent through birth, fostering, and adoption, Leia spends most of her days arranging the family calendar, packing snacks, and helping everyone figure out what to do when things don't go as planned. Sister is her first picture book.
