We are so excited! 2017 is going to be a MASSIVE year for arts culture in Logan. We already have a few exciting projects and exhibition opportunities ready to reveal shortly along with our new site and downloadable app!
As promised – this is the live recording of the event we held in December where we heard from Logan Artists, Naomi Crawford, Peta Thompson, award-winning writer Karen Tyrrell, and Poet, Matt (Trucky) Langdon.
Our new website is almost ready to launch, we are just putting the final touches on it – so stay tuned for this too! In the meantime, have a listen, and get involved in the local culture around you!
A few events this February to get more culture up to your eyeballs.
Feb 3 – Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Beenleigh’s Pheonix Ensemble’s opening night – Based on the popular 1988 film, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS centres on two con men living on the French Riviera. The suave and sophisticated Lawrence Jameson makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money. Small-time crook, Freddy Benson, more humbly swindles women with fabricated stories about his grandmother’s failing health. After unsuccessfully attempting to work together, they conspire to compete in a con – and the loser must leave town. A hilarious battle of cons ensues, that will keep audiences laughing, humming and guessing to the end!
Feb 4 – Waitangi Day @ NightQuarter
NightQuarter is proud to be celebrating everything that is Aotearoa (NZ) on the 4th February in celebration of Waitangi Day!
What better way to celebrate the significance of the signing of New Zealand’s founding treaty than with a massive line-up of music, food and cultural performances inspired by the land of the long white cloud.
You’re invited to sit back in The Paddock with your wh?nau, enjoy the sounds of none other than HOUSE OF SHEM, the Hanlon Brothers and The Hula Hut. The melting pot of global sounds with strong New Zealand and Pacific Island influences will be a great experience for Kiwis and Aussies alike!
Feb 5 – BrisAsia Festival Live Art with PhilB 12-2PM
Watch local street artist PhilB live in action as he works onto Plywood pieces using acrylic markers of all different sizes as part of the BrisAsia Festival at the Pod in the Brunswick Street Mall.
Feb 7 – Gypsy Hooping
Join Steampunk gypsy, a qualified Hoolahoop Instructor and Hoop Flow Artist. Weekly classes will be held in the back garden area of Logan Women’s (weather dependent). Classes only $5pp. No experience needed. Women of all fitness levels are encouraged to attend.
Feb 9 – Art Journal Club
Join Missladypetal Creations at Logan Women’s for a Monthly Art Club & discover the benefits of art journaling. Bring your own journal and art supplies, however, we can provide some art supplies if needed. For bookings or enquiries, please call 3801 8368
Feb 10 – Blood Brothers
“Blood Brothers” by Willy Russell, is the story of twin boys who are unknowingly separated at birth, who later meet. This is one of the best and most moving British Musicals ever written and the third longest running on the West End.
Feb 11 – Aaron Pocock’s Art Exhibition
Logan Artists Association Able Gallery opening event Sat 11th Feb. 2-5pm. Able Gallery, Coral Street, Loganlea. Refreshments, music, artwork on the day and the exhibition will be running throughout the following week and Aaron will be manning it as an artist-in-residence and will be available for chats, coffee, art talk, coffee and chatting (with coffee).
Feb 14 – JETS Enrolment Day
The Junior Entertainment Theatre Students program will open the doors to new enrolments on February 14th, 2017. This information and enrolment evening will provide all relevant information about the program and will be an opportunity to ask questions, meet the tutors and hear specific details for each age group for 2017.
The JETS program runs throughout the school terms and seeks to empower young people who wish to learn or improve their Stagecraft and theatre etiquette and of course, perform. At the close of each year all ages groups will work towards a public mainstage production that covers all elements of theatre. The program currently has over 100 students from all different schools in South East Queensland spanning from 5 – 18 years old.
Feb 15 – LIVE Podcast Q&A with Artist Elysha Rei
Fringe Art & Culture – Live Podcast – 1-2PM
In collaboration with Engage Arts, Fringe will host a live artist Q&A podcast – shining a spotlight on visual artist Elsyha Rei as part of the BrisAsia Festival.
