In this episode, Dr. Allison McHugh, DNP, MHCDS, RN, NE-BC, discusses why we need nurse leaders, the importance of finding joy, and the call for recognition and support in the nursing workforce.

Dr. Allison McHugh is a nurse with almost 30 years of experience, born and raised in Massachusetts. She has practiced nursing in many parts of the country in both academic medical centers and community hospitals. She has over 20 years of experience in leadership, including Director, Associate Chief Nurse, and Chief Nursing Officer.

As a diploma nurse who went on to receive two master’s degrees and a DNP in Executive Practice, Dr. McHugh considers herself a role model and example of a lifelong learner who loves continuously learning new things. She has an incredible passion for nursing and lifting others up. Leadership development and executive practice are her areas of expertise.

Dr. McHugh also has a passion for research and scholarly work. She has presented and published on a variety of topics, including “Finding Purpose,” “Infusing Joy into Your Life and Work,” and “Healthy Work Environments.” Dr. McHugh is happily married to her husband of over 25 years, and enjoys the outdoors, baking, art, photography, and time with family and friends. She currently lives in Tallahassee, Florida.
