When you have an audience, how do you convert followers or viewers into paying members through a site like Patreon? This episode is a live critique of a band’s Patreon page.

To be clear, this is NOT for using your show as a lead generator. This episode is all about community financial support (aka donations).

Albert asked:

The issue I have right now is how to effectively transfer followers into paid subscribers. We have lots of followers (I’m promoting my band) and not a lot of paid subscribers (e.g. Patreon.)

BTW, if you want us to do a live critique of something you’re working on, let us know via email!

So let’s take a look at what you need to know in order to convert followers into PAYING subscribers!

We just re-started our Patreon page a week ago and have $1,000 / month contributed through our other brand, Geeks Life (tech & lifestyle channel), but we’ve been doing community support for years and at one time had $7,000/month being contributed.

First, build a community and get them involved. You’ll be able to build a community by offering content that’s valuable for them.

Second, give rewards. Get them involved with the donation so they are getting something back. Be specific with the benefits they’re getting, and make it worth their donation! Keep in mind that your time is something valuable for your followers. And it’s also a precious commodity to you, so be careful about overburdening yourself.

Third, do not focus on the money. Know that you will need to give a lot to your followers before they give you a little. Keep asking them what they want, or if you need to do something different to make them happy.

Fourth, stand out. There are a lot of people doing the same thing as you do! How do followers choose to be your patron? Put in more effort, this way people will know that you are passionate with what you’re doing.

And lastly, allow them to be a part of your journey. Don’t invite them to watch you do fun stuff. Invite them to join in on the fun!
