Welcome back to another edition of the Geektown Radio podcast! This week we talk the usual UK TV premiere dates and tv news, plus, we step from the screen to the stage as we interview Walter Trarbach and Mike Dobson, the Tony-nominated sound designers for 'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical'!

'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical' recently picked up a staggering 12 Tony-nominations at the awards this year, including one for Walter Trarbach and Mike Dobson, the sound and live foley designers of the musical.

Though the specific sounds were a team effort, Walter functions as the traditional sound designer, dealing with the mix of the music and vocals while Mike plays an integral part in shaping the overall sound of the show. Mike is in full view of the audience during the show, and plays the sound effects live during each performance, even interacting with SpongeBob during one comedic bit. Walter and Mike started on the show before there was a script or any songs, allowing them to organically grow the sound design parallel with the show’s development as a whole. Because of this, the sound is thoroughly integrated into the fibre of the show.
