Trying to manage your blood pressure can be a hassle. Does the machine at Walgreens work or how about that blood pressure machine you bought from Amazon prime? Are you using it correctly, is it accurate and how do you get the data to your primary care physician or cardiologist?

Managing your vitals especially blood pressure is important but there must be a better way to do this. Is there an app for this or is there new technology making this process easier?

Hello everyone and welcome to the show Cardiovascular Health What You Need To Know.

According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC)

  • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, and women in the US.
  • One person dies every 34 seconds from cardiovascular disease.1
  • About 697,000 people in the United States died from heart disease in 2020—that’s 1 in every 5 deaths.1,2
  • In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds.

Wow these are some eye opening statistics and may be hard to hear but it is important to be aware. I recently had a family member who lived a big life on a ranch caring for her horses attending horse shows and in one blink of an eye she had a massive heart attack, is paralyzed on her left side and will likely spend the rest of her life in a skilled nursing facility. It is so important to be aware of signs and be proactive in tracking our heart health.

I am grateful to have Dr. Jay Shah on the show today.

Dr. Jay Shah has 15+ years of medical expertise and 11+ years of leadership in the medical practices at city general hospitals, to community settings, to the Mayo Clinic. He has brought his experience and expertise to the Swiss startup Aktiia, to change the paradigm of how the world’s most common disease – hypertension – is understood and managed. Also an angel investor and advisor, he is passionate about applying technology to solve practical problems in medicine and believes strongly in the power of positive thinking and collaboration.
Today we will discuss:

1) What are the top 3 things patients can do better for cardiovascular health?

2) Physician and Patient partner in health -importance of tracking blood pressure,

3) Healthcare Industry is changing with innovative tools and apps to better manage health vitals and options for care.
