The medical examiner said Hank Ellis died of heart failure from the stress of being arrested.

The city settled, the finding never changed.

These days they often just copy this finding for each new death by choke hold. The coroner's task is to determine whether the person died of natural causes or "at the hands of another." The heart attack finding points to natural causes, which gets the killer off the hook.
