Jesus comes into the world that he created. More than his creation, the world is intended to be his home, his family. Yet the world doesn’t know him. This includes both Israel and the wider world. Yet those who receive him have a new status. They are given the authority to be children of God. They have a new heart. They have been born of God completely. They are set apart as a “priestly kingdom and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:6). Their mission, which is also our mission, is to call everyone out of darkness into God’s “marvelous light” (I Peter 2:9).
