Brandon Hatcher with Social Remedy Marketing joins me for a two-part series to talk about creating content for social media. I met Brandon at Converge South a couple of months ago. Converge South is a technology and creativity conference in Winston Salem, NC. I sat in on his session and was impressed with his storytelling skills as well as his message on creating content.

When it comes to content creation, don’t worry about how you look or how you sound. Just create content. Brandon talks about getting involved with social media around 2005. He saw social media as a way to show off his art and passions. Over the last decade, he has been learning about social media and now wants to help others learn how to succeed online.

How can a small business owner take their passion and use it in social media?

Brandon says it does not matter what it is that you are passionate about you need to document what you do. Make videos about your products or service. It could be a finished product, time-lapse video, how-to or tips about your service.

If you document enough, you will have content that you can chop up and use on various channels at various times. “Keep the cameras rolling” and obtain as much content as possible.

Sure, content creation is not easy but needs to become habitual. You need to either find the time to create content or you can use a content creation company. Keep in mind that there is not such a thing as having or posting too much content.

When you start to create content, you will find that you start to fill up your hard drive. I am running into that issue now and need to start storing it on a separate hard drive. PSA, no matter where your content is, make sure that you back up your data!

This is the first part of my discussion with Brandon. Tune in next week for the next episode, #114.
