Coming to you from the Science Processing and Operation Center (SPOC) in the Drake Building of the University of Arizona, I sat down with members of the OLA team, Canadian Co-Is and collaborators of the OSIRIS-REx mission, to discuss laser altimetry as applied to asteroid Bennu. Prof. Mike Daly of York University is the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) Science Lead and Lead Instrument Scientists on OLA for OSIRIS-REx. Mike was joined by Manar Al Asad, a Research Scientist from University of British Columbia, working on OLA. He was also joined by Jason Liang, Instrument Engineer from MDA Corporation. In addition to learning about OLA, its importance on OSIRIS-REx and space exploration, and about what each of my guests does on the team, we learn that Mike was born and raised in Canada, Manar is from Saudi Arabia and hopeful soon to be an Canadian citizen, and that Jason immigrated to Canada with his parents from China! Recorded 18 February 2019.
