Today, on The 8th of June we Celebrate World Oceans Day. This year with the theme “Gender and the Ocean”. The importance of gender equality, in particular for the conservation and sustainable use of oceans is increasingly being recognized. However, there is very little data and research on these issues, Why is it important to link ocean-related issues to the Sustainable Development Goal 5 about gender equality? One example of traditional and sustainable use of the Oceans are the Haenyenos – female divers at the Korean Island Jeju. They harvest fish, seaweed, and algae from the ocean. And Their culture is now displayed at an exhibition in Sweden. The Curator Min Jeong Ko is here to discuss Gender and the ocean together with Lena Gipperth from Centre for sea and Society and Albin Dahlin. www.havochsamhalle.gu.se Music: Candlepower av Chris Zabriskie licensieras under licensen Creative Commons Attribution (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)
