Stephen Petranek, an award-winning journalist and technology forecaster, who believes that people will be living on Mars within the next 10-15 years.
Stephen Petranek is an American writer, and editor of Breakthrough Technology Alert. He has previously edited Discover, and the Washington Post's magazine. He was founding editor and editor in chief of This Old House magazine for Time Inc., and was senior editor for science at LIFE magazine. Stephen states his case in his book called "How We'll Live on Mars". Complementing his TED talk of the same name, the book paints a picture of humanity's first journey to the Red Planet, which is set in 2027, and describes the key technologies needed to reach, survive and thrive on the planet and exactly how that process would play out.
TUNE IN to this fascinating conversation with Stephen Petranek where we talk about:
Space opportunities of our time and all the challenges we have to overcome before we get to and when we get to Mars to proudly call ourselves a true multi-planetary civilization.
What Elon Musk has up his sleeve besides a Big F*cking Rocket
Our nomadic nature and why it's our inevitable future - we will settle down on other planets one day
Space as the next frontier of entrepreneurship and exponential business opportunities (Look up to the skies instead of trying to invent the next FB)
The Main Takeaway:
We always think it's an insane, crazy and stupid idea - until it's done and we can't imagine how our life was ever possible without it.
Think of a smartphone in your hand, that can easily substitute all your media and technology devices - 10 years ago, if somebody told you it'd be like that –you’d think they are delusional science fiction fans.
Speaking of science fiction…
NASA had no plans of sending anyone in the near future to Mars, or anywhere, just a year ago.
Then the movie The Martian came out, and supported by audacious plans and visions of Elon Musk and his Big F*cking Rocket, all of a sudden that happens…
NASA assigns a director of a manned mission to Mars.
TUNE IN!!!
Let the journey to Mars begin…
