A sheaf can represent a person or a group of people (Gen. 37: 5,7). The journey of leaving Egypt (a type of the world) consists of a time of preparation, which is the counting of the omer, for the purpose of meeting with the God of Israel at the mountain, where we are to serve Him. The meeting with the God of Israel happens on Shavuot or Pentecost. It is a picture of a spiritual journey. The sheaves of barley (the omer) went through a process in order to be made into a set apart offering. We look at how the barley grain or omer is processed. The barley was reaped in the vicinity of Jerusalem with a scythe. The grain was then brought to the Temple courtyard where it was threshed and beaten. Next, it was inserted into a tube to be parched by fire. After that it was spread out on the courtyard floor to be dried in the wind. Then, the omer was milled, and ground up into fine flour. After that, the omer was brought to a sieve where it was sifted 13 times. There are rich and deep spiritual insights in looking at this process. WE are the omer, WE are the sheaf, and the Father takes us through a process to humble us, refine us, purify us, test us, and try us so that we can become that holy, set-apart offering unto the Lord!
