Most of us have not been taught to accept or regulate our emotions. We are taught that things like happiness, joy and gratitude are the good ones and that things like anger, frustration and boredom are the bad ones. We are taught to value the good ones and avoid the bad ones. We are taught that demonstrating the good ones is desirable and we should do more of it and we are taught to hide the bad ones and definitely not to let others see or know we have them. We receive powerful and fundamental messages that feeling and demonstrating the good ones make us “good “ and that demonstrating, acting out, or even having the bad ones make us “bad” Our own unique theatrical performance begins to flow . We begin to pretend. When we are scared, we act tough, when we are frightened we act brave, when we are ashamed we hide, when we are confused, we question ourselves. We begin to believe things about ourselves because of this pretending. Some of it we believe empowers us, and most of it erodes our light and dims us into submission. It is no surprise then that the vast majority of us find it almost impossible to nourish our true selves. We have little to no familiarity with accessing our inner wisdom, feeling our feelings and expressing ourselves authentically. Most of us have long awarded acting careers, acting out images of who we think we should be or want to be. Often inflating ourselves and diminishing others as we consciously or unconsciously avoid acknowledging that we believe ourselves to be ultimately undeserving. For many of us profound healing and transformation is possible by reconnecting to the wounded inner child that is wreaking havoc as they flail to find safety - Find that safety now.
